Wine, Wine! For you Tom and Dawn!

Today is Sunday, our second day in Eger. We are recovering from the Cookie Mans BBQ. We must have recovered quickly because, right on schedule, here comes Zsolt and Anna to take us to a wine cellar at 1ö a.m. We drive to Zsolts parents house, meet them, have great coffee and meet wild dog Pascal. Anna stays here and we go on to Csutoras pince, a wine cellar in Eger. Here we meed Csuti the winemaker and spend the next four hours with him and Zsolt learning all about his wine, an awesome experience. The winery was founded in 1933 by Csutis grandfather and has been passed down three generations. The cellar is really a wine cave. We are taken into the very old cave where the grapes are fermenting, stone walls, mushrooms growing on ceiling, oak barrels full of wine... we are given a tour of three caves and then a private tasting of Csuti white and red wines. The white (feher borok) are good, there is one nice dry white wine that we like very much. We then move to the reds (voros borok), several of which come directly from the barrel. Csuti tells us the history of the Hungarian wine Bulls Blood. It is said that when the Turks invaded Eger that they were amazed at the ferocity of the Egerites, and wondered what they were drinking that boiled thier blood and stained their beards to red. The merchants saw this as a great marketing opportunity and named the wine Bulls Blood. The name has stuck, and the merchants made a buck. We very much enjoyed Csutis 2öö3 grandfathers superior Bulls Blood and have shipped half a case of signed bottles to Oregon. This is a sold out wine. Tom and Dawn, get your glasses ready! From the cellar we were taken to Csutis Mazda truck anddriven up to the top of the Eger hill where the grapes grow. What a beautiful setting. We actually tasted the grapes as it is harvest time. So hats off to another great Servas day. There simply would not have been a way for us to see or do all of this without our great hosts! Again, pictures will follow.

Karmen- I can't wait to see the photos. Man, you both bring true meaning to the phrase, "making each day count". Very humbling for a busy mom stuck in suberbia. Attended a wine tasting event this weekend and had no idea the taste difference between barreled wine and stainless steel wine. Stainless Steel seems to be a new selling feature for local wineries. Obviously I'm not versed in "wine speak" so give me your impressions of the wine and wineries there.
