This isn't Kansas anymore, Dorothy!
Well, well, well. If anyone out there has the secret to the Karma dance would you mind letting us know? Here's a recap since we left Europe on the 31st of December. During our 18 hour flight from Paris to Bangkok there were nine bombings in Bangkok. Upon arrival, we discovered that Melissa's bag had not made the trip and still (5 days later) has not been found. We filed a report (two hours to accomplish) hailed a cab and set off for the hotel. Got to the hotel only to discover that the cab driver was trying to rip us off. So , a nice little discussionwith him, and on we went. That's three events right? Don't they say it comes in threes? Seriously, we didn't even know about the bombings, and they have had absolutely no effects on us at all. The lost luggage is a bummer, as Melissa has one shirt, one pant, and one pair of shoes to her name. And the cab driver could be any city, anywhere, anytime. It has been a bit of a culture shock, after leaving Europe. The language and the alphabet are so different. Julie sticks out like you can't imagine, towering over the Thai men and women, very white and very blonde. She hits her head on doors, and ceilings. The music they play sounds like the chipmonks singing in a foreign language. The food is HOT, and really really cheap. The money is interesting, you can go to the ATM and withdrawl 5,000 Thai Bhat and you really don't have much at all, although you think you do. We discovered that spa treatments and massages run about 10 bucks each, the best news yet. And get this, a five and a half hour bus ride cost only $8 U.S. Not bad. If you want to take a look at where we are right now visit www.koh-chang.com and check it out. We will await your answers on the karma dance before attempting our weeks activities, elephant riding, Thai cooking school and the snorkel trip. Stay tuned, as it is sure to get only more interesting as we go! And last, Air France, we are pretty darn mad at you!

Yikes! Absolutely sounds like a major culture shock. Good news is that your money will go much further in Thailand and you can wine and dine like princesses.
The only thing I found on the website that might remind you (briefly)of Europe is this- Wine Gallery - If you want to venture outside the hotel for a drink, there's now a wine gallery that provides indoor and outdoor seatings so you can take a sip of wine from all regions of the world. The wine gallery is located in the Kai Bae Beach area.
No advide on the Karma dancing. However, I have attended several Cambodian festivities and picked up on the dancing quite easily....with a few drinks you don't care what you look like.
I hope the weather is better there than here- mostly dark and very rainy..nearly 8:30am. Wish I was there.
I just thought of you guys this am, when I was getting ready.. hoping that your luggage had caught up with you.. I hope it's not putting a huge damper on your trip. Hang in there!
